INVENT THE FUTURE JUDGES

The Invent the Future judges are the real deal. Last year’s contestants told us that the Invent the Future judges should be knowledgeable, authentic, respected and connected. In other words, they should be people just like Ann, Carly, Hal, Ajay, Kristin and Terry.

 

Judge Ann Lau

Ann Luu

Ann Luu has been on Vancouver's airwaves since 2006. Currently, she can be seen and heard on CBC radio and television. She is the morning weather and traffic reporter for CBC Radio 1's Early Edition and a weather presenter for CBC TV. When not on the air, Ann's other passion lies in studying the cultures around her. She received her Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Lethbridge and believes climate change is a cultural matter as well. Her vote will be for the entry that is clever, witty and links society with sustainability.

Judge Ajay Puri

Ajay Puri

Ajay is an avid advocate for community building and supporting progressive policies, groups and events. He has co-founded and continues to co-lead several community outreach/activism organizations like Rangi Changi Roots and Ethno-cultural Health Research & Community Network. He has also worked extensively in the health sector to bring about positive change for vulnerable urban populations. He is currently conducting his Doctoral work at the School of Population and Public Health at UBC. To get Ajay’s vote your entry will have to clearly demonstrate an immediate and measurable benefit to people in BC.

Judge Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly is a singer/songwriter from Mission, BC. After placing third on Canadian Idol and touring across the country, Carly released her first album Tug of War. Her debut album led to a “SOCAN Song of the Year” Canadian Radio Music Award and she was nominated for two Juno Awards – “Songwriter of the Year” and “New Artist of the Year.” Carly was also nominated for the MMVA “Ur Fave New Artist” and she snagged two gold selling singles. Currently, Carly is back in BC hard at work recording her second album. If your entry reaches people on an emotional level then chances are you’ll pick up Carly’s vote.

Judge Hal Wake

Hal Wake

Hal has been engaged in the literary community in Canada for more than 30 years. A true advocate for the written word, Hal has hosted or moderated more than a hundred literary events at festivals in Vancouver BC, Victoria BC and Sydney, Australia. As a volunteer he has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Lower Mainland and the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. Currently, Hal is the Artistic Director of the Vancouver International Writers Festival. In order to attract Hal’s attention your entry should tell a story in a structured and imaginative way.

Kristin Kreuk

Kristin is an actor from Vancouver, BC. Talented and versatile, her acting chops have earned her critical acclaim in roles that range from hometown heroine to Snow White herself. Perhaps best known as Lana Lang in the long-running hit TV series Smallville the story of Clark Kent, Kristin has also appeared in Vic Sarin's recent feature film Partition, CBC's popular teen drama Edgemont and many more. If your idea is effective and easy to incorporate into the lives of people with schedules as busy as hers, Kristins vote will be yours.

Judge Terry McBride

Terry McBride

Terry McBride is the CEO and co-founder of Nettwerk Music Group. Nettwerk has helped to develop the careers of some big names like Avril Lavigne, Coldplay and Sarah McLachlan to name a few. In 2003, Terry received the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award recognizing an outstanding individual who has contributed to the growth and advancement of the Canadian music industry. He has also been awarded the Pollstar Industry Award for Personal Manager of the Year not once, but twice! To get on Terry’s play list your entry will have to have superstar potential.
