Here’s the skinny on a contest with some phat prizes. Invent the Future is an ideas contest open to BC residents between the ages of 16 and 24. All you need to do to enter is create an original song, make a video or write an essay that describes how you would raise awareness about the importance of energy conservation. Our crew of judges vote for the best ideas and then dole out six grand prizes of $2000 and an all expenses paid week at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School.
We’ve hit the high points below, but if you want to know more see our rules and regulations.
The contest is divided into two age groups: 16 – 19 years old and 20 – 24 years old. Any BC resident who is at least 16 years of age and no older than 24, is eligible to enter. All ideas must be submitted by December 5, 2010 to be eligible to win.
Submissions will be accepted from:
Please note you can only enter once per category – even if you have entered as a member of a team.
A 90 second song, a 90 second video or an 350-500 word essay.
Your song can be performed in any style – jazz, hip-hop, pop, country, electro – anything goes. Songs must not be longer than 90 seconds.
Essay submissions should be between 350- 500 words. Please limit your formatting to bolding, underlining, and italics. Appendices containing background information may be attached to and form part of the submission; however the contest judges are not obligated to consider the material in the appendices when judging the submission.
Video submissions should be between 30 to 90 seconds in length.
For more details on submissions check out the rules and regulations.

The deal is you need people to vote for your entry to move on to the final round – one step closer to $2000 cash and a week at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. The entries from each age group and category with the most votes will move on the final round. Those entries will be judged by our panel of bright and shiny judges.
It’s pretty simple actually – every unique vote you receive is worth three points and repeat votes are only worth one. In other words, if your Mom votes for your entry five times you’ll only get seven points (three for her first vote and then one for each subsequent vote). BUT, if five different people vote for your entry you’ll getting a whopping 15 points. The contestants with the most votes at the end of the contest move on the finals and one step closer to winning the $2000 and a week at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School.

Yep. So pull up a chair and read through the Rules and Regulations and check out the FAQ section.
