There is a growing problem of "phantom-load" on our energy system. Many devices draw power even when they are turned off or in their stand-by mode.
There are now devices that measure how many watts a device is drawing.
My idea is that we should distribute these for free to every resident of BC.
The devices are cheap, and they will make people aware of the "phantom load" so that they can address it.
Our ultimate goal would be to make manufacturers change their practices as people become aware of the problem.
Finally, we could combine the device with a pledge to reduce energy efficiency. We need people to feel committed and empowered.
